Like an explosion erupting out of the snow, a flock of ptarmigan buzzed over my dogs heads. One of my fond memories of my 1979 Iditarod in the hills of Egavik. Total glee for a few minutes...later we ran into a herd of snowshoe hares...but then that's another painting...
