Pewter pin measuring approximately 2 1/2" x 1 3/4"

Artist's narrative: Many northern people regard Raven as the mystical spirit of creation that brought the sun, moon, and stars to humankind. (Can you find these symbols in this piece?) Yet Raven is also a trickster with a high-profile ego. Playful even in the severest cold, ravens make the most complex series of vocalizations in the bird family. This piece is also called 'High-5 because Raven is congratulating himself!

Ravens rule the sky all year round but mainly during the winter months. In summer they have to share the skies with migrants. They know many different calls and are considered the most intelligent of the bird species. They fly out from their roosting trees early in the morning and return home in the evening after a day of hunting. Their aerial acrobatics are phenomenal especially during a windy day. Their raucous calls can be heard for miles, especially in the early morning, when you are trying to sleep in! We have a nest in the village of Ester and when the young ones fledge it's almost like a gang has taken over the trees in my neighbor's yard.

I designed these animal spirit pieces to honor the creatures that inhabit my adopted state, Alaska. The animals that call Alaska home have to endure all the seasonal changes from the sub-zero temperatures of our winters to the frenetic activity of our 24hr summer days.

This pewter pin has two tack backs and military-style clasps (very secure). Because of this, it cannot not use our pin converters.
