I truly hope the Steller Sea Lion is not in eclipse. In Alaska, the Steller population has declined by seventy to eighty percent since the 1970's. Specultated causes are complex and, likely, an inter-related collision between overfished pollock and herring fisheries, Orca predator behavior, climate change and pollution. I am now the resident artist at the Alaska SeaLife Center, Alaska Zoo and Catalina Island Conservatory where I regularly contribute work to fundraising events that support care and research. These creatures are such a gift and privilege to capture on canvas.
