Wild Iris Basket Designs

"Penelope" means "weaver" in its Greek origin. That makes it a fitting name for Penelope Cyr-Lorenson, who weaves a variety of refined baskets. She has lived on Kodiak Island since 1979 and started her weaving career in the early 1980's.

This master weaver likes to incorporate nature in her work. Many of her baskets include driftwood, seashells, sea glass, and Alaskan ivory, bone, and fur. Penelope brings Native and nautical  traditions together.

Her unique and upcycled baskets are created from longline and crab line utilized by hard-working fisherman to catch black cod, grey cod, halibut, and crab.
