Judy Roush

A child of the misty rainforest of Southeast Alaska, non-indigenous artist Judy Roush has studied under many renowned Northwest Coast artists at the Totem Heritage Center in Ketchikan, Alaska.

The drum designs themselves represent the animals and spirits of the three Northwest Coast cultures which are ancient and still flourish in Southeast Alaska today. Raven and Eagle or Wolf are the two matrilineal moieties into which all Alaska Natives are born. Many other spirits and animals inhabiting the forests and waters of Southeast Alaska are incorporated into clan crests and stories which explain our world.
