Sandy Wade

Ketchikan artist Sandy Wade has developed a unique style of painting fish on natural pine wood. She selected pine as her surface because of the beautiful clear grain that provides a perfect backdrop for her anatomically correct and colorfully detailed paintings.

In each painting she tries to incorporate the grain of the wood into the design. Preparing and finishing her paintings on wood panels is a lengthy process. Before she begins a painting, the pine is carefully sanded and sealed before a ground is applied that will hold many layers of paint. Finally an acid free fixative and layers of museum quality natural varnish are applied to the piece in order to provide protection and durability. Each pine panel is a one of a kind original painting.
