Whether sailing Alaska coastal waters or snorkeling Hawaiian shores, V Rae chronicles natural life through bold portraits that leap from the canvas to your heart. Defying convention in a startling fusion of color and negative space, V paints Freestyle Expressions that transport each personal encounter through time and space, sharing with the world her seamless blend of art, nature and individual personality. Like Humpback whales, V migrates between Alaska, the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii each year painting from platforms frequented by her subjects.
Artist's narrative: The remote beach is a two hundred yard, half moon crescent of granite ball bearings rolling and rumbling in fluid motion with the sea. From a driftwood recliner I inhale the essential oils of sea breeze attempting (in my intoxicated state) to discern whether the azure reflection of mountain on water means I’m sitting on, or hanging from the weathered old branch of storms past. Not until a gentle presence eases through the mirror surface does my internal compass regain its bearings. The seal is only a few feet from shore and inquires, through caring eyes, whether I’m okay. I drift for what seems an eternity, afloat in the allure of his gaze, and awake to a fading ripple, my spirit and his entwined on our driftwood recliner.
