Here is a ferry crossing Tongass Narrows with a load of passengers ready for adventure. In the backdrop an Alaska Airlines jet can be seen flying in front of the clouds.

This drawing is modeled on the Ketchikan airport ferry, which connects the city, on Revillagigedo Island, to its airport, which is on Gravina Island. There is no other public method for getting back and forth between the two. The ferry has propellers and rudders at both ends that turn in opposite directions to allow the ferry to safely and efficiently move vehicles and people without ever having to turn around. It has two main engines and two generators, only partially pictured here.

Tom Crestodina, an Alaskan fisherman, began making cutaway drawings in 2011 to connect with his young son, Franio, while he was out at sea.
