The sockeye are running and this little aluminum gillnetter is out to catch its share in a bay full of boats. The crew is untangling the salmon from the net, and the young skipper is keeping an eye on the competition. The cutaway view shows the fish holds, fuel tank, engine and drive train, and the wheeelhouse and fo'c'sle.
Also visible here are the design that keeps the prop shielded from nets and lines and the fairleads that guide the net onto the drum.
Tom Crestodina, an Alaskan fisherman, began making cutaway drawings in 2011 to conncect with his young son, Franio, while he was out at sea.
