Doug Hudson, formerly of Ketchikan now resides in Bellingham, Washington. He worked for many years as a school teacher in Ketchikan before retiring and turning to his art full time.
A classic watercolor painter, Doug fell in love with wood carving after taking classes from native masters in Southeast Alaska. He then developed a unique way to sculpt using the techniques of knifework he had learned. Doug's unique style was completely self-taught and original. Developed in 1972, he calls these pieces "sculptured wood murals."
His paintings and sculpted murals represent many diverse cultures and are sought by collectors and museums across the United States and Canada.
