Artist's narrative: This scene portrays one of our perfect summer morning with the sun just up, the coffee just brewed in the tackle shop, and these three fishermen excited about the prospect of being the first out on the water. Resident geese gather hopefully for a handout but the fishermen are too intent on strategy to respond.
Ketchikan artist Dick Miller captures the marine landscape of Southeast Alaska through his watercolors of boats at rest and at work in all kinds of weather - bright sun, soft fog, and sometimes turbulent seas. His watercolors reflect his close acquaintance with the area around Ketchikan - the mountains, the beaches the flora, and the waters.
