This is a drawing of one of the first two markers at the south entrance of Wrangell Narrows in Alaska, the remarkable 22-mile channel that connects Frederick Sound to Sumner Strait, running between Mitkof and Kupreanof Islands. The channel is the lifeline that connects Petersburg to the communities and fishing grounds in southern Southeast Alaska, and has about 60 markers along its winding, sometimes treacherous course.

Tom Crestodina, an Alaskan fisherman, began making cutaway drawings in 2011 to connect with his young son, Franio, while he was out at sea.
